In Ghana, where education remains a lifeline for children from underserved communities, one woman’s birthday tradition of giving continues to light the path for many. On March 20, 2025, a remarkable donation was made to Ambassadors for Christ International School in Nsawam, a privately run institution committed to providing quality education, especially to children from low-income families, orphans and vulnerable children.
The donation, consisting of food items was made by Norphred Adwoa Kyerewaa, who resides in Canada. “Each year on my birthday, I choose to give rather than receive. It’s my way of thanking God and giving hope to children who deserve to smile too,” said Norphred. “This year, I felt led to support the children of Ambassadors for Christ International School. Every child deserves the chance to dream, and this is my small way of contributing to that dream.”
At the donation event, emotions ran high as students welcomed the guests with music and wide smiles. Mr. Emmanuel Ametepey, founder of the school, reaffirmed their commitment to inclusive education: “Ambassadors for Christ is more than a school. It’s a home of opportunity for children who would otherwise be left behind. When we are blessed, we must become blessings to others.”
Standing in for Norphred, Mr. Richard shared “It fills my heart with joy to be here. Norphred believes giving back is a privilege, not an obligation. Seeing these children smile reminds me why acts of kindness like this truly matter.”
He also took a moment to acknowledge the teachers: “Your dedication is inspiring. Teaching is not easy especially under limited conditions- but you are shaping futures. Keep being the difference in these children’s lives.”
Madam Rachael Tseganu, a teacher at the school, shared how impactful the donation would be saying “Some of our students can’t afford even the most basic hygiene products. Yet they come to school eager to learn. This support eases a burden we feel every day.”
Mr. Enoch Kofi Kalisti, the school’s Business Development and Partnership Officer, revealed the lengths they go to bring education to the underserved: “I often walk into communities during school hours and ask why children are not in school. Many times, it’s because families simply cannot afford it. So, we step in. We engage, we support, and we welcome them here. Some are orphans, others come from deeply impoverished homes. But here, they find hope.”
And perhaps the most powerful words came from the students themselves. Peace and Gabriella, two young learners, offered their heartfelt thanks to Mr. Richard “When children are hungry, they can’t learn or focus in class. But today, because of you, we will learn better and grow into great people. Thank you for thinking of us.”
This act of giving speaks not only to personal generosity but to a deeper issue—the urgent need for systemic reform. Many families remain trapped in poverty, unable to provide even the basics needed for learning. While individual acts of kindness offer critical relief, sustainable solutions must be rooted in policy that ensures equitable access to education for every child.
The message is clear: we all have a role to play. As Ambassadors for Christ International School continues its mission to serve children from disadvantaged backgrounds, the school welcomes support from individuals, church groups, corporate partners, and community organizations. Whether it’s donating a bag of rice, a set of exercise books, financial contributions, or volunteering your time with these children.
